DESIGNING
THE MODEL The first stage in creating a piece of jewelry is to
produce an exact miniature replica, usually a highly-elaborate miniature sculpture.
This is the most important phase, in which the artist expresses all of his creativity,
ingenuity and artistic command whereby the piece is modeled in all its details-
the engravings, the carvings and the meticulous trims- which render the piece
unmistakable and unrivalled. The model is created with a special, very solid wax,
ideal for the creative and high-precision work of an artist.
-
CREATING
THE MOULD: Once the wax model is completed, it is then covered
with a special plaster mixture which adheres perfectly to the wax model respecting
each and every minimal detail. The wax and plaster object is then baked at very
high temperatures in a classic ceramics kiln, where the wax completely melts away
running out of small holes previously drilled in the plaster, and the plaster
reaches the maximum hardness due to the high temperature.
-
FUSION:
The plaster “shell” is later used for the final procedure,
the fusion in which the smelted metal selected for the piece is “glued”
inside the shell in which it waits to completely cool down. Eventually it is possible
to open the shell, dismantle it, and break all the plaster in order to finally
be able to extract the metal creation.
-
REFINEMENT:
We continue the process with the welding of any fasteners and the setting of stones,
followed by a detailed cleaning and correction of any imperfections, then the
eventual gold plating, and lastly the smoothing. A long and precise method born
of history, a historical artisan tradition passed on to the creative minds and
expert hands of today so as to return the original to all of its glory.
